Sharpening stone • #1000 • 202mm x 77mm x 30mm • splash & go
A sharpening stone for maintaining sharpness, after using this stone you could already cut coarse vegetables. If you go for more delicate products, such as raw meat/fish, we recommend polishing (from #3000).
We recommend a fixer and a stone holder for this stone.
Thanks to a direct import from Japan, we can offer the Sigma stones.
Sigma Power Corporation in Tokyo has specially developed these premium stones to sharpen harder steels, such as VG10 and SG2. Sigma has ensured that these stones offer a sharpening experience that is comparable to that of natural stones. The advice for use is to put the stone in water for 5 minutes the first time. When using next time, only wet the surface of the stone.
Unlike other synthetic stones, no bonding materials are used with these Sigma stones. The oxides are created by a process that is similar to making glass. As the stone cools after baking, the toughness increases. The process of making the stone is intensive, but produces a stone that easily cuts its way through the hardest steels.
The sharpening process produces a thick slurry, making the stone more active than other synthetic stones. Flattening the stone is quite easy with the right fixer. By fixing your stone regularly, it will stay in the right condition for longer.
